The quick version

  • Board length: pick the size where your weight sits in the middle of the brand's range.
  • Board width: big feet (around men's 11 and up) usually need a wide model.
  • Boots: snug, toes just touching, no heel lift.
  • Bindings: match the binding size to your boot size.

Sizing questions

How do I pick a snowboard length?

Start with your weight, not your height. Every brand publishes a size chart with a recommended rider weight range for each length, so find the sizes where your weight lands in the middle of the range. Height and riding style fine tune it from there.

Should I size up or down?

Size down a little for park, jibbing and a looser, more playful feel. Size up a little for powder, speed and freeriding where you want more float and stability. Most all mountain riders land right in the middle of the chart.

Do I need a wide board?

If your boots hang way over the edges you can catch your toes or heels when you carve. Riders in roughly men's size 11 and up usually look at wide (W) models, but it depends on the board's waist width, your binding angles and the boot. Bring your boots in and we'll check it on the wall.

How should snowboard boots fit?

Snug. Standing up, your toes should just touch the end of the liner. When you flex forward into a riding stance, they should pull back slightly. Your heel should stay locked down with no lift. Liners pack out a bit over the first several days, so a boot that feels a little tight in the shop usually feels right on the hill.

What size bindings do I need?

Bindings are sized to your boot, not your board. Check the brand's chart for your boot size (S, M, L, XL or S/M, M/L and so on). Burton Step On bindings only work with Step On boots, so those are bought as a pair.

Can I try before I buy?

Yes. Demo a Korua, Stranda, Jones, Burton or Arbor board for the day and see how it rides before you commit. Call 970.453.7400 to set it up.
